What changes on August 24, 2026?

A view counts the moment playback starts, no minimum watch time, on long-form videos, live streams and Shorts. Your public number goes up because the bar dropped, not because your videos changed. YouTube says so on its own Help Center page.

What are Engaged Views?

The old counting method, renamed. Someone had to stay, not just press play. You will find it in Studio under Analytics, Advanced mode, and it is the number your money is still keyed to.

Will my YouTube revenue go down?

No. Revenue stays keyed to engaged metrics, and Partner Program eligibility to the qualified version of them. What moves is your apparent RPM: the same money divided by a bigger number. If someone tells you their RPM collapsed in September, that is why.

Was the old rule really 30 seconds?

YouTube never published 30 seconds for organic views. It publishes 30 seconds for skippable ads, and 10 seconds for organic, on the same page. The 30 everyone repeats looks like it leaked over from the ad rule.

Does this affect Shorts?

Shorts already switched to this counting in March 2025, so nothing new happens to them on the 24th. This tool reads long-form uploads only, videos over about three minutes.

Does my channel change on the 24th exactly?

August 24 is the date YouTube gave, for everyone, not a staged rollout. With Shorts the counting flipped on one date and the reporting took months to settle, so expect Studio to look unsettled for a while.

Is this the same as the Partner Program thresholds going up?

Accepted Answer

No. Separate announcement, a week earlier: the bar to join monetization doubles from February 1, 2027, measured in engaged and qualified metrics rather than the new public count. Both stories use the word views, which is why they keep getting mixed up.

How accurate is this estimate?

Accepted Answer

It is an estimate, which is why we label it one. It assumes 20% of your impressions turn into extra plays, our own working figure, and it guesses your impressions from your views, which is where the range comes from. Move the sliders, then come back in September and check how wrong we were.

Question 9

Do you store my channel data?

Accepted Answer

No. Every request carrying your channel goes from your browser straight to googleapis.com, which you can watch in your own network tab. We never learn which channel you typed and there is nothing to sign in to. The page loads the same consent-gated analytics as the rest of the site, counting page views and clicks, never your handle or your result.

Where does the data come from?

The public endpoints of the YouTube Data API v3, called from your browser: your channel, your uploads, and each video's length and view count. Using this tool means you are also using YouTube, so the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy apply. Anything labelled estimate is ours.
